Anyone else sick of this flat spell? No waves no fun. But I’m here, the lifeguard season has started and I’m back to working, and on a related note the eyeball report is set to get going next week. Keep checking back for up to date reports, and much much more.
Sorry about the lack of content lately but there face been alot of goings on around here and little time to work the site. But sick around theres tons coming up this summer, including new periodicals, original video, eyeball reports, and alot more. So stick sound 27 surf, big things are on the way.
LONG BEACH, New York / USA (Wednesday, April 26, 2011) – The ASP 1-Star Unsound Pro Junior, stop No. 6 of 9 on the 2011 men’s ASP North America Pro Junior Series, is set to host a 48-man field in Long Beach, New York with a waiting period from April 27 through 30, 2011. With a promising south swell expected to detonate New York’s shoreline later in the week, this year’s competitors have the potential to score classic New York beachbreak conditions.
Are you foaming at the chops yet or what? Spring has sprung this week and it brought some promising swell our way. (If you haven’t gotten out there yet, what are you waiting for?) This is awesome news being that the current forecast is predicting some consistent good swell throughout the week for the UnsOund Pro Junior NY starting tomorrow and going through the weekend. Some of the most up and comming surfers will be attending, including local Balaram Stack. The Jr pro is being held earlier than in the past years adding a twist for the pack adding colder than usual waters to the mixup and it could get interesting to see how the surfers take to it.
EDIT: live webcast at www.nysea.com
anybody else really really realllly stoked?
Facebook, in all its infinate wisdom, has brought this very worthy cause to my attention. UnsOund Surf is hosting an art and photo show/auction to raise money and awareness for “The Juvinile Diabetes Foundation” as well as the “Tommy Brull Foundation” Its a free event for everyone to enjoy but donations of all sorts are welcome. A ton of great artists/photographers from the area will be putting up some of their best work, so really come on down and have a good time for a good cause! Hope to see you all there!
Just a quick update on my Pheonix project… The shaping is done, I started with a 6’8″ retro step-up, with a glassed on thruster fin set up. Now it is officially a 5’11″ x 19″ swallowtail fish, with a FCS quad fin setup. Now I’m waiting on the glass, resin, and fin kit to get to me, then all that’s left is to laminate it, install the plugs, and surf! I can’t wait to try her out, I even had a dream the other night where the waves were pumping at a beach, and I surfed it as a blank with some cool stickers on it (because they keep the water out apparently in my dreamworld). Anyway keep posted up and look out for [27] shirts and swag coming your way soon!

You have got to be kidding me! Snow 6-12″ in APRIL?! Will the grip of Jack Frost ever let go?! Personally I think its all because of the gulf oil spill, but then again I blame alot on BP and the gulf spill. But nomatter what you think is causing the rediculously low temperatures the winter storm offers the possibility of waves this weekend, and thats something we’ve all been looking for. Me personally I’d rather be sitting on the beach wishing for waves in a pair of boardies rather than be shoveling snow (plus then your shot way before padling out).
Whats your take on this SOB? Poll up!

Running this site by myself so far has been a hell of a juggling act, between this, school, my Pheonix board recovery project, and the search for gainful employment, things have been hectic around here, so expect to start seeing some new faces on the post wall. Also the gears are turning and the [27] Merch should be rolling off the presses soon. Were also going to be launching a media section featuring art, music, and all forms of expression from around the island, things to get your stoke going, you know the deal.
The swell has been down the last few days, so has the temperature, boo, but things should be on the up and up very soon (I hope!!) the sun is shining, the birds are chirping spring is … well its “springing” into life (dear god I can be cheezy sometimes). So crank through the next few weeks, theres always spring break to look forward to, and for those of you in the workforce, well … you’ll still be working … but it will be spring … enjoy it.
So lets all pray for swell, keep checking back to [27]Surf, hopefully by the next good swell “the pheonix” will be ready for her first trial by water, and so will the GoPro : )
Just putting it out there, the snow sucks, but the swell is up… get out those 5mils you all put away for one last cold surf!
